On Tuesday and Wednesday night coming (16th + 17th February) the debates will be held in the The Glasshouse in Sligo with Donegal debates taking place on Thursday 18th in the The Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town.

The motion from Cllr Declan Bree to insert a ban on fracking in the Sligo Development Plan was defeated by Fine Gael and Fianna Fail councillors at today’s Council meeting.

The councillors, including Clr Eamon Scanlon, Clr Tom Mc Sharry and Clr Dara Mulvey, voted against Cllr Bree’s proposal to include the ban against fracking in the development Plan.

Sligo County Council is to ask the Minister for Energy not to facilitate the Tamboran Resources company in its application for an exploratory drilling licence in Ireland.

Council members unanimously supported the motion at a special meeting of the council today.

At the meeting, Sinn Fein councillor, Sean McManus, said that Tamboran should cut their losses and ‘get the hell out of Ireland’.

The meeting was addressed by two anti-fracking campaigners in the North West.

Nigel McGrath of Belcoo Frack Free says Tamboran’s moves to begin drilling in their area in recent weeks has caused huge local upset, with people crying in the street…….
