Declan Bree motion

Fracking Free Ireland did attend the meeting with campaigners from some groups. Here a short impression and a short article/podcast on ocean fm.

Declan Bree motion 2

The motion from Cllr Declan Bree to insert a ban on fracking in the Sligo Development Plan was defeated by Fine Gael and Fianna Fail councillors at today’s Council meeting.

The councillors, including Clr Eamon Scanlon, Clr Tom Mc Sharry and Clr Dara Mulvey, voted against Cllr Bree’s proposal to include the ban against fracking in the development Plan.

Thank you for your email regarding hydraulic fracturing (fracking). I have always and will continue to be opposed to the granting of any fracking licenses or exploratory licenses. I have attended a number of public meetings regarding this and you have rightly outlined some of the issues regarding fracking in your email.

Thank you for taking the initiative in writing to all of the councillors.  Hopefully the motion will be adopted on Monday.

yes I will vote to ban fracking as I have done consistently in the past.

I am rather surprised that you feel it necessary to contact Sinn Fein
councillors on this issue as our record on Sligo Co Council and elsewhere in
bringing forward anti-fracking proposals is quite clear.
Further to that, Sinn Fein have led efforts in the Dail to ban fracking and
our local TD Michael Colreavy, has been very vocal on this matter.
I have last week re-watched the documentary “Shattered Ground” which is
explicit in portraying the serious dangers associated with this greedy
extraction process.
Finally, I would ask that you keep in mind Sinn Fein’s position of
opposition to fracking when you cast your vote in the coming general
election.
