The first US shale gas sailed into Europe bringing controversy in its wake.
Ineos, the chemical group, said that its own gas carrier arrived in Norway on Wednesday with 27,500 cubic metres of American ethane on board. Shipments to Ineos’s UK refinery at Grangemouth are scheduled to start later this year.
THE infrastructure minister, Chris Hazzard, has been criticised after indicating he will not be intervening directly in the case of an exploratory oil drill at Woodburn Forest near Carrickfergus.
The Sinn Féin minister has proposed a change in the law to require any exploration company to seek full planning permission for test drilling, but said there were “very limited opportunities for me to act in this case” as the matter was now the responsibility of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
Siemens Drilling and Marine, Dresser-Rand and Lloyd’s Register have launched a best-of-industry team to make LNG more widely available to shipowners to use gas as marine fuel to meet tighter curbs on emissions of sulphur and nitrogen oxide.
The team is developing “an end-to-end solution encompassing the entire supply chain, from natural gas procurement to liquefaction and delivery of LNG, to newbuilding or retrofitting” and has pledged to “remove obstacles that can hold back widespread adoption of natural gas as the marine fuel of choice”.
