"Unearthed provides a significant platform for further discussion on the global energy crisis and offers a new perspective on the nature of the fracking debate." - Blue & Green Tomorrow

"When Jolynn Minnaar first heard about fracking in the Karoo, her home district, she was optimistic. Companies seeking to drill in this semi-arid area of South Africa promised that the new process of gas extraction was safe, bringing widespread prosperity for the poor, rural communities.
After coming across a rumoured case of water contamination in Pennsylvania, Jolynn is drawn into an investigation which takes her into America's heart of darkness - the home of fracking technology - in search of answers. Her discoveries leave her horrified.
What she finds is a bleak landscape, where powerful energy companies exploit the land, at a terrible cost to both the environment and the health of the local communities. As the South African government lifts the moratorium on fracking, the race against time begins to share her findings with the residents of the Karoo - before it's too late."

"Unearthed" robustly challenges the assertion that hydraulic fracturing is a safe, time-tested technology and questions whether shale gas is the solution for our energy-hungry world."

CAMPAIGN NEWS - MEPS

Access Denied: MEPs stage TTIP reading room demonstration

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TviARr4utqY#t=154

GUE/NGL MEPs - along with other MEPs from the Greens, the S&D, and the EFDD - have today staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the TTIP Reading Room in the European Parliament, in a bid to highlight the lack of transparency surrounding the EU-US trade talks.

Access to consolidated TTIP texts is highly restricted: only some members of Parliament's Trade committee (the chairperson, coordinators, and the rapporteur) may request a watermarked copy of documents containing the EU offers.

And only those MEPs, the chairs of 11 parliamentary committees, and TTIP rapporteurs have access to the TTIP reading room, which opened this summer.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TviARr4utqY#t=154

While a ban on taking notes in the reading room was lifted on 3 September, this is not in any way near enough.

GUE/NGL wants access to the negotiation documents for all MEPs - as promised by Commissioner-designate Cecilia Malmström in her Hearing on 29 September.

And just as importantly, the documents should also be made available to the general public so citizens can fully participate in a real public and democratic debate on such a far-reaching trade deal. The final consolidated text of negotiations on an EU-Canada trade deal - CETA (Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement) - was recently published without any public consultation at all.

Global Frack Down Day - Recap

http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/blogs/the-global-frackdown-2014-a-recap/
This one was bigger than last year by almost any measurement. There were more actions and events, more countries represented at 34, and more states in the US at 33. There was also the major European day of action around trade that also had an anti-fracking platform. All told there were well over 300 actions and events took place on every continent. It is inspiring and energizing to see the wonderful photos from wonderful people all over the world, knowing that we are standing strong together to protect our planet and communities.here to add a title or text.

Global Frack Down

http://ecowatch.com/2014/10/13/global-frackdown-ban-fracking/

Thousands of people participated in Saturday’s Global Frackdown calling for a worldwide ban on fracking. With more than 250 events in more than a dozen countries, anti-fracking activists united with the message: no to fossil fuels, yes to clean, renewable energy.

“Across the globe a powerful movement is emerging that rejects policies incentivizing fracked natural gas as a bridge fuel to a sustainable future. Any initiative claiming to promote sustainable energy for all must stimulate energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, not foster fracking for oil and gas,” said Wenonah Hauter, executive director of Food & Water Watch.

Global Frack Down Day/ Stop TTIP - All Ireland events

We grabbed the good vibes in Dublin!

By coincidence the Global Frack Down Day happened to be organised on the same date as the Right 2 Water March, Staurday 11 October 2014
Gardai estimated that up to 100,000 people attended the Right 2 Water march in Dublin that day. People from all over the country came to protest against the privatisation of our water.

"At Protect Our North Coast's well attended meeting (16th Oct) in Portballintrae two motions were overwhelmingly agreed:

1) That no fracking of any kind can be allowed in the north coast licence area as it will bring no benefit to the people or the environment.

2) That the Assembly Committee for DETI - the dept. that issued the licences to explore for shale gas - are formally invited to the north coast to attend a meeting with a broad cross section of the community to hear the enormous distress and concern being caused by DETIs decision to issue exploratory licences.
Further people joined our campaign to stop fracking & an organising meeting will be held in the near future to plan activities.
Thanks to all who attended!"

Stop TTIP - TiSA report

en_tisaresearchpaper_final_web1

This is another free trade agreement being negotiated in secret by the 50 countries calling themselves the "really good friends of services".
The EU member states are included in
this number, with the blessing of the EP (Resolution B7-0314/2013) (July 2013).
There was a services free trade agreement being negotiated under the WTO that ultimately failed there, so the countries are negotiating outside
the WTO now, in secret. The US has even requested that its proposals remain secret for 5 years after the agreement comes into force, or for 5
years in any case if negotiations fail!
