Grab the vibes!
join the Global Frack Down
and
Stop TTIP day

Friday, 10 October 2014

Tomorrow we will be united all over the world. The message is clear: we don't want  fracking and we say not to the trade deals that will wider open the doors for the big companies.
Ireland has organised over 10 events this year!
Mullaghdun will bid Farewell to Tamboran and Belcoo will have a “Pig on a spit at the ‘Gates of Heaven, to name a few.  Music, comedy, run, walks, info stalls.... scroll down and join the event you like, meet anti- frackers, have fun, get the battery recharged!
Tamboran might be gone, but the threat of fracking is not gone.

Think out of the box! Learn more about the TTIP, we gathered some readable and 'comic' explanations and learn more about our MEPs' playing games with the big oil company in Brussels...

If you are not able to join any event, don't worry, sign the self-organised ECI (European Citizens' Initiative) against TTIP

Enjoy!

GET READY FOR THE KICKOFF!

All - Several Global Frackdown events are already underway and hundreds will happen tomorrow. On October 11 there will be actions in at least 32 countries on six continents and over 30 states across the United States. It will be an amazing and powerful day of action and I'm excited to be participating in this with all of you.

Today we delivered a letter to Ban Ki-moon calling for no fracking in the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative at the United Nations. It was signed on by over 250 groups in over 35 countries. Thanks to everyone who signed on to that.

To maximize the impact of tomorrow and help capture the power of our movement, here are some reminders:

1.
Use the hashtag: Lets use the #GlobalFrackdown throughout the day on social media and tweet messages to decision makers and photos

2.
Capture photos and share them! Please remember to post photos in the Global Frackdown facebook event page here:https://www.facebook.com/events/1578033332337030/ and email photos to photos@fwwatch.org

3.
News clips: There have been a bunch already, but if you see clips, share them with us or send them directly to Katherine Cirullo at kcirullo@fwwatch.org, who is trying to collect as many of these as we can.

4.
Not a partner organization yet?: Not too late to sign on as an organizational partner. Right here: http://www.globalfrackdown.org/org-endorsement-form/

5.
Register events: Finally, if you have an event planned but haven't registered it on the map yet, its not too late - you can add it here:http://www.globalfrackdown.org/events-2014/

Tomorrow is going to be an amazing day and a powerful one with our movement. In addition to the main Global Frackdown events, there is a major day of action opposing several trade deals, actions that have an anti-fracking message as part of the platform.
Today also kicks off the Reclaim Power week targeting the World Bank and dirty energy, including fracking. All told, there will be well over 300 actions tomorrow.

We'll be bringing the message loudly and clearly - Ban Fracking Now!

Onward together,

Mark

A Rough Guide to the Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership (TTIP)

The Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership is a trade deal between the EU and the US, with negotiations conducted in secret but open to pressure from corporate lobbyists. The deal boosts corporate power and endangers people and the planet. This video, made by international campaigning organisation Attac, sets out the problems with the deal in a really clear, informative way.

On October 11, 2014 join the decentralised European Day of Action to stop TTIPCETA & TiSA!

These upcoming trade deals threaten our already weak democracies and pave the way for an attack on the environment, health systems, food, jobs, public services, digital rights and much more.

TTIP

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (also called TAFTA – Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement) is being negotiated between the US and the EU since July 2013

CETA

The Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement has already been negotiated between the EU and Canada and is now being finalised

TiSA

The Trade in Services Agreement is now under negotiation among 50 countries including the EU

Civil society, trade unions, farmers and grassroots activist groups from all over Europe have called for a Day of Action on October 11, 2014 to stop the ongoing free trade negotiations. A website has been set up to help facilitate the organising and promotion of the Day of Action.

For Europe, a Game of Fracking RISK?

For Europe, a Game of Fracking RISK?
http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/blogs/for-europe-a-game-of-fracking-risk/By Geert Decock

Fracking is full of risks; It threatens water, air, the climate, public health, livelihoods and more.

That much we know.

But what if fracking were RISK? As in RISK, the board game, where the goal is to occupy as many territories as possible (keep in mind that the oil and gas industry’s goal is to frack as many territories as possible). The metaphor is not as farfetched as you may think.

This past Tuesday, ahead of the Global Frackdown, Food & Water Watch’s international day of action to ban fracking, we gathered outside the European Parliament in Brussels to play our own version of RISK — “Fracking RISK” — to bring lawmakers and community members up to speed on the many dangers of fracking.
