County Councillors meetings re Belcoo

At a special meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon a unanimous motion calling on the Taoiseach to meet with the British Prime Minister and the First and Deputy First Ministers in Northern Ireland to urge them to immediately stop all drilling works being carried out by Tamboran Resources in connection with hydraulic fracturing (fracking) at a quarry in Belcoo, Co. Fermanagh.  In addition, the eighteen members of the council called on the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White TD to meet with them “as a matter of urgency” to discuss fracking and the current situation in Co. Fermanagh.

Cavan County Council are to hold a similar emergency meeting tomorrow and it is believed hat Sligo County Council is considering holding a similar meeting next week.

A number of the councillors who visited Belcoo over the past couple of days to examine the site but were prevented from entering the proposed drilling area by the security fencing and razor wire erected overnight last week spoke of their anger at what they had seen.
