leitrim and fracking plans

Thursday, July 10th, 2014

Leitrim County Council are calling on the Minister for Natural Resources to keep them informed on any fracking developments that may be about to take place in the Lough Allen Basin across the border in Fermanagh.

Cllr Mary Bohan raised concerns at a recent meeting of the local authority about reports that energy company Tamboran Resources are ready to commence bore hole drilling at Belcoo.

Cllr Martin Kenny said one of his Sinn Fein colleagues in Fermanagh said there was no application for planning for such a move, despite the reports on Oilbarrel.com that drilling at the new well was due to commence in the second quarter of this year.

Cllr Kenny said the website was directed towards driving up the company’s share value in advance of its initial public offering in Australia early next year.

Cllr Des Guckian pointed out that under the Aarhus Convention neighbouring states are obliged to keep each other informed of developments that could have cross border impact.
It was agreed that a request be sent to the Minister requesting information on any plans that have been provided to them about operations in Fermanagh.
